Sua popula\u00e7\u00e3o \u00e9 de aproximadamente\u00a0111\u00a0575 habitantes, sendo osegundo mais populoso do estado&#8230;\u00a0As primeiras viagens explorat\u00f3rias da Coroa Portuguesa\u00a0em Parintins foram registradas somente em 1796. Assim como as demais localidades da Amaz\u00f4nia, a regi\u00e3o era habitada por diversas etnias indigenas, entre eles os Tupinanb\u00e1s, que deram origem ao nome da ilha em que se encontra o munic\u00edpio, a ilha de Tupinambarana. O primeiro nome recebido por Parintins, j\u00e1 na categoria de Freguesia, foi Nossa Senhora do Carmo de Tupinambarana, em 1833.
